For a worry-free, hassle-free visit to Canada, please acquaint yourself with the new Electronic Travel Authorization requirements.
The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) became a requirement for Brits travelling to Canada on March 15, 2016. It came about as a response to the need for improved border security. British people flying to Canada should have their eTA in hand before boarding an aeroplane to Canada.
It is simple and easy to obtain a Canada eTA. You may apply for one on this site. In preparation for completing the application, please have your passport and credit card for making payments.
A function of the eTA Canada visa is to screen air travellers before they arrive in the country. With this screening process in place, ineligible travellers (criminals, for example, or persons under no-fly restrictions) are refused travel and entry into Canada. This protects Canada’s borders and avoids the cost of sending back these prohibited travellers.
It is simple to apply for an eTA. Simply have a valid passport, a major credit card, and an email address. With these items, you may apply online on this website
Anyone travelling by air to Canada from a visa-free country must have a Canada Electronic Travel Authorization.
This includes citizens of the following countries: Andorra, Antigua & Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Britain, British overseas territories, Brunei, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Portugal, Samoa, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States.
We provide eTAs for travellers from any of the above countries. We predominantly issue eTAs for travellers from Britain, however. If you plan to travel in India, please visit Indian e visa.
Any air traveller going to Canada from the UK must have an electronic visa, even children.
Parents should keep in mind that it is helpful to have a letter of consent from the absent parent if one is travelling alone with their children. This can help to avoid questions or concerns of travel authorities. Contact the Canadian High Commission for more information on this matter.
An eTA is valid for five years. If the eTA and your passport remain valid, you may fly freely to Canada at any time.
If you are from a visa-required country, you must have a Canadian visa regardless of your U.S. visa.

Planning to visit Canada? You must have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) if you are a citizen of a visa-exempt country.
The beauty of the eTA is that travellers do not have to go through the sometimes lengthy process of applying for a visa at a Canadian embassy. Instead, if they are citizens of a visa-exempt country, they may simply apply online for a travel authorization. Once granted the eTA, travellers may visit Canada for 180 days or less.
The eTA program came about as an attempt by the Canadian government to pre-screen travellers coming from visa-exempt countries. Before the eTA program was in effect, a traveler arriving in Canada who did not meet entry requirements would not be allowed into the country. Then followed the task of returning that person to his or her country.
The eTA program circumvents that situation by ensuring that travellers meet entry requirements before they leave home.
Anyone who comes from a visa-exempt country and plans to travel to Canada by air needs to have an eTA before boarding your flight to Canada or entering the country through other ways.
All air passengers, including children, must have the eTA. Ground travellers going into Canada from the United States do not need to have an eTA.
Travellers coming from countries that are not part of the visa exempt program must secure regular visas at a Canadian embassy or consulate.
Fifty-two countries are exempt from the visa requirement for Canada. Instead, their citizens may enter Canada with an Electronic Travel Authorization. These 52 countries are economically and politically stable and do not pose any threat to Canada’s security
